      <image:title>Blog - John’s Ride, Our Honor</image:title>
<image:caption>On December 24, 2024, the Alpharetta cycling community lost one of its most dedicated riders and beloved friends. John Wood passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Though his passing marked the end of a beautiful life, John’s spirit continues to ride with those who knew and loved him—on winding roads, under early morning skies, and in the quiet strength of those who show up for others, just as he always did. John’s love for cycling started early, sparked in his teens and reignited in his fifties and sixties. He was a regular presence on the roads with Whitetail and Webb Bridge cycling clubs, where his tenacity, warmth, and humor made him a standout. Week after week, he showed up—ready to ride, ready to race, and always ready to encourage others. Whether he was hammering a climb or cruising through the neighborhood, John rode with joy and generosity. When John was diagnosed with terminal cancer, the Van Purser Foundation stepped in to ride alongside him and his family in a different way—off the bike, but no less present. The Foundation provided support in deeply meaningful ways: helping cover expenses, and most touchingly, organizing one final neighborhood ride so that friends and fellow cyclists could say their goodbyes. That ride was more than a gesture; it was a tribute to the miles shared, the friendships forged, and the battles fought together.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Blog - No One Rides Alone: Sam’s Story</image:title>
<image:caption>In the world of cycling, there’s an unspoken bond among riders—a camaraderie built on miles of shared effort, challenges, and triumphs. But when an accident happens, that same community can be a lifeline in ways you never expect. That’s exactly what Sam Beale experienced when the Van Purser Foundation stepped in as he faced one of his toughest challenges. Cycling has been a huge part of Sam’s life. Whether it's early morning rides before the world wakes up, long weekend routes with friends, or the thrill of pushing himself to new limits, cycling isn’t just his hobby—it’s his passion. It’s where he finds freedom, challenge, and community all wrapped into one. Like many avid cyclists, he loved the open road, the smell of nature, and the exhilaration of pushing his limits. But one ride changed everything. It was a typical Tuesday night ride–one he had done dozens of times before. Sam was cruising down a familiar stretch of road at the tail end of the peloton when suddenly, a car failed to yield at an intersection. In that split second, he had no time to react before the impact sent him crashing onto the pavement. The crash left him with serious injuries, sidelining him from the sport he loved. Beyond the physical pain, the emotional and financial strain of the accident was overwhelming. That’s when the Van Purser Foundation stepped in.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - VPF Helps Fill The Gap: Richard’s Story - Richard and Leslie Collins are a devoted couple with deep roots in the cycling community. Richard, an avid cyclist and active member of the Webb Bridge Cycling Community, and Leslie, his wife, fellow cyclist, and steadfast supporter, have always shared a love for adventure. In April 2024, they embarked on what they hoped would be a memorable cycling vacation in Italy. However, their journey took a tragic and life-altering turn when Richard was involved in a severe cycling accident. During a windy ride on poorly paved roads, Richard’s front wheel seized up on a descent, causing him to fall hard over the handlebars. He suffered fractures in his cervical and thoracic vertebrae, severe facial trauma including broken cheekbones, orbitals, and a dislocated jaw, among other injuries.</image:title>

<image:title>Blog - A Community Lifeline in Times of Crisis: Dru’s Story - On November 20, 2023, Dru Satori and his family faced a devastating house fire that tested their strength and resilience. Around 3:00 a.m., they were abruptly awakened by the blaze and, within minutes, realized the severity of the situation. They discovered a fire at the back of their house and immediately called 911 while evacuating their children and pets. Thanks to their quick actions, everyone escaped unharmed. However, the fire inflicted severe damage, rendering the house beyond repair. Once the authorities cleared the area, the family, supported by dedicated friends and neighbors, worked tirelessly to salvage what they could from the remains while the insurance company began planning the next steps. Amidst this adversity, the family's gratitude shined brightly. They managed to recover a substantial amount of clothing, though much of it was wet, smoky, and dirty. Many generous friends and neighbors stepped up to help clean their clothes as the family anxiously waited to see what could be saved. In the meantime, the Van Purser Foundation took immediate action. Recognizing the urgency and severity of the situation, they arrived at the Satori home with a check in hand, ready to help fill the family's immediate needs as they waited for the insurance company to step in. In his family's time of greatest need, the VPF stood up and put their support into action, embodying the true spirit of community and solidarity.</image:title>

      <image:title>Blog - Richard's Cycling Journey: Passion, Perseverance, and Community</image:title>
<image:caption>Richard has been deeply involved in cycling since 2010. Though his main passion is skiing, riding his bike is one of his favorite things to do. His commitment to the cycling community is evident through his long-standing involvement with the Van Purser Foundation. “I’ve been involved with the Van Purser Foundation from pretty much the very beginning,” Richard shared. “I was on the board for a while but had to step back due to other commitments. For so many reasons, the Van Purser Foundation holds a special place in my heart.” Where it all began Richard's journey into cycling began when he bought a bike in 2010 and quickly immersed himself in Lifetime Fitness’ cycling group. “By 2012, I was leading rides and eventually got a job as the cycle coordinator. That’s where I met Van. He’d come to our rides and was instrumental in helping me understand group riding dynamics.” Overcoming adversity Richard then opened up about a particularly challenging period in his life. “I was laid off from Dell in February 2020, just as the pandemic started.</image:caption>

<image:title>Blog - Join Our Mission - We're excited to share with you the inspiring story behind the Van Purser Foundation and invite you to join us in our mission. The Inspiration Van Purser was more than just a name. He was a pillar of our community, a dedicated family man, spiritual guide, business leader, and passionate advocate for cycling. His impact stretched far and wide, resonating across North Georgia and beyond. Though Van's battle with ALS ended in 2019, his legacy lives on through the Van Purser Foundation—a testament to his boundless generosity and unwavering compassion. Before he passed, Van laid the foundation for Domestique Leadership—a dream in the making. He envisioned a community where cyclists could unite to create positive change, not just on the roads we ride but also in the lives of those we encounter along the way. (Check out the video here.) Under his guidance, we were inspired to become caring, servant leaders, fostering connections and support both on and off the bike.</image:title>
